Lenny’s Photo Album

Filed under: General — Samillena @ 10:20 pm

Lenny has already posted all of his pictures from the reunion. To see some familiar faces look here. Thanks Lenny! I will try to put together a small photo gallery this weekend. I have to figure out how to do it first.

E had a little fun sitting and being pulled in the sled. While K (Becky and Matt’s girl) had already seen snow in Yosemite, she was only E’s age and didn’t remember. K had trouble sleeping the night before because she was so excited about playing in the snow the next day. Born in Indiana, N (Sis and Rob’s boy) had probably seen snow many times before. He was ready with his winter gear. Check out his cool hat!

Purdue Reunion 2005

Filed under: General — Samillena @ 9:50 pm

Hello Everyone,

I’m very sorry that it has been so long. E had been sick again and then I got strep throat. All this went on while we tried to finish up all the details for a reunion of my Purdue friends in Breckenridge, CO. For obvious reasons, I wasn’t posting that we were leaving on a long trip to meet Matt, Trevor, Lenny, Brent, Tanya, Sis, Man, Sang, etc. I assume all of our houses are as we left them. The reunion was a big success. Everyone pitched in to create a really fun time. It’s late and we really need some sleep before getting back to work, but here is a quick picture from Becky and Matt. This is from a short hike that we all took on a mountain next to Breckenridge. Look close and you’ll see four little ones (E and children of Matt, Sis, and Brent).

Southland in the Springtime

Filed under: General — Samillena @ 10:33 pm

I’m sorry that it’s been a week since the last post. E was over her fevers by last Monday night. Unfortunately she had some digestive troubles for a few more days. It caused a bad diaper rash. Because daycare won’t take a sick baby, we needed to stay home with her for those days. By Friday, she was all better. It rained a lot on Friday and Saturday. That usually makes the day a little depressing for me, but they felt good anyway knowing that E was OK.

We got a lot done this weekend. I finished a small project on Friday night (it’s one of the things that distracted me from making a post). I put together a small contest for the Purdue Reunion. I assembled a group of photographs of other people that were either in or on the outskirts of my group of undergrad friends. I put numbers with each photo and people from the reunion are now guessing who’s who. Send me an email if you’d like a copy of the contest. With all the students that spent holidays in Streamwood/Elgin, you’d probably recognize about 1/3 of the people. It’s a little big/irrelevant though for E’s blog, so I didn’t post it.

We went to the bookstore on Saturday and bought three good books. One was on infant sign language. It’s time that E started learning to communicate in other ways than crying. A bonus would be that we would all be able to say basic greetings if we met a deaf person. The second book was on bargain traveling through South America. We have begun thinking about our next trip. With James’ new job, we are not sure when they are going back to Australia. Also, with the Euro so strong against the dollar, Spain and Italy are out for a while. South America is a lot cheaper and E won’t have to deal with the jet lag. It would also force me to study more Spanish. Right now we are leaning towards Argentina. There is a lot of hiking. You can also camp too. The third book was an impulse buy (we’d planned the other two). I found a book called “60 hikes within 60 miles of Raleigh”. It’s turned out to be a pretty good book. I wish we’d had it when people visited. It has detailed info on some of the hikes we’ve taken. We’re looking forward to trying out some new ones.

Yesterday afternoon we went to see Mer. We walked over to campus with Cole and Mer gave us a tour. The campus was put together well. The buildings are mainly 3 story brick. The landscaping fits the building well with the rolling hills and trees. E slept through most of the walk.

Today we mowed the lawn and did some other yard work. I’d put it off as long as possible. I am definetely not ‘Hank Hill’. I’m what is called ‘a reluctant acheiver’ in the lawn care busines. Afterwards we went for a long walk because it was finally sunny out. The picture above was taken in the front yard under our Bartlett pear tree.

One last, but important thing: Anne, Jed and O moved back up north during last week. The photo above was taken at a going away dinner last Monday night organized by Anne’s workgroup at Deere. We were very sad to see them go. You can see E reaching out to Anne in the photo. “Please don’t go” It will be rough going for a while and we will miss them. We had become good friends in the last year. The move is going to be an exciting change for them and we wish them the best. A couple weeks ago we all went to the Asheboro Zoo together. I put together a little video (little in time, large in memory size). Check it out here. Because it is so big, I’ll probably remove the file/link in a couple weeks to make room for more blog content. If you want to see it after that, you’ll need to save it now.
