Quick update– J is back up past her birth weight. Phew. And re: meltdowns… J actually has far fewer than E did. E had them every night for the first 3 months and we never figured out why. J only has them when she has a really bad tummy ache. The crying is really hard, but it lasts only about 5-10 minutes until you hear a really loud noise and then… problem solved, meltdown over, hand her over to daddy for a diaper change….
An easy baby, so far.
E is still being a wonderful big sister. She’s amazing. She wants to play with J whenever J is awake (not often when E is home), and kisses her, hugs her, and says “Baby Sister!” over and over. It’s pretty darned cute.
Granddaddy and Nanny have come to visit and help out for two weeks. E has been pretty happy about it. Instead of just mommy and daddy, she now has a house full of people to play with. We are watching her closely though, to see if she starts acting differently. Liz has been holding up very well considering she feeds the baby all day and night. She’s starting to get pretty tired though. I’m glad that we get to start giving J a bottle a day on Saturday (2 weeks old). I”ll be able to feed J and Mama can get a solid 5 -6 hours of sleep.
Even though J has her meltdowns, she still finds time to get her sleep. Below is during some of the 60 minutes that she is up and looking around during the day. She will get weighed at the doctor again tomorrow. Wish J luck. It would be nice if she was back to her birth weight. It’s not a big deal if she isn’t though. She eats well and is very strong.
Happy Father’s Day to the fathers and grandfathers.
Above you can see a picture from J’s bath today. Since she lost her cord during the week, she can now have real baths (not just sponge baths). E did a great job helping. At first she rescued J’s pacifier whenever it made a break for the water. Later she helped pour water on J to rinse. J seemed to like it because there wasn’t much crying.
The last few days have been pretty uneventful. We’ve just run errands and tried to keep the girls happy. One thing we did find out was that the phone in the hall actually does work. It is an intercom to a speaker at the door outside. While E rants into it, it broadcasts her voice to our front yard.
J seems much stronger after her first week. We would not be surprised if she learned to roll over tomorrow. You can see a short video of J here. Since I’m back to work tomorrow, the next post may be a few days away.
