I’m a bit lazy tonight. Here is an old pic of J playing in the picnic blanket we gave Liz for mother’s day. We think E’s fever broke about 4:00 this afternoon. She is back to strong (and tiring) negotiations. Tomorrow may be a normal day.
We went back to Living History Farms today with Nanny and Granddaddy and saw the “town” portion of the outdoor museum. Last weekend we saw the farm part. This is a recreation of a fictional Iowa prairie town from 1875 of 500 inhabitants.
There were a couple of carriages…

And at the broom maker’s shop, they let E & J comb the seeds from the “broom corn”. It is actually not corn, but that is the name of the plant that was used for brooms.

In the cabinet maker’s shop (which would have provided all the wooden furniture, in addition to cabinets), E got to plane some wood. J tried, too.

We also saw the one-room schoolhouse, the veterinarian’s stable, the blacksmith shop, two restored houses, and the farm implement shop. On another trip, we will see the druggist, general store, church, and a few other buildings.
It was a sunny day, but very windy like yesterday.
E woke up after naptime with a fever. Hopefully something that will resolve itself with rest tonight.

Nanny and Granddaddy came to visit this weekend. We spent the morning at the Des Moines Arts Festival. It was really nice outside. Sunny, not too hot, but windy. We took a break from the artwork to run around on the grass and listen to bluegrass music. After a banana smoothie, the girls were ready to burn off a little sugar.

Here Nanny and J are watching a lady on stilts pretending to be a peacock. J is using about 90% of her processor and is totally out of RAM. It would have been easier on J if the lady broke out of character every once in a while. Instead the lady amped it up… walked over to a tree and pretended to eat the leaves. My brain peaked out for a moment too trying to understand where I was and if I was dreaming.

When we first arrived, E got her face painted. She’d seen face painting at the family night at the zoo before. I think she was a bit nervous but had fun.

Here is a photo of the girls running on the grass. All the motion attracted the attention of a puppy. Its owner came over and we were all able to pet the puppy.
Later, Nanny and Granddaddy watched the girls while Liz and I went out on a date for our anniversary. After a nice spicy Thai dinner we went to the movies and saw Wall-E. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I haven’t gone to the movies in 4 years, but I thought is was excellent. I don’t think E can see it for a while though. Kids’ movies are very adult now. We bought Happy Feet the other day. Its ending was pretty tough for a 3-4 year old. How do you explain a penguin being trapped in a zoo display going mad and throwing its fish at imaginary family members that are not there? “He’s just sad Honey…” I don’t think the PG KungFu Panda will be much better for E. We will have to stick with the Barbie princess movies for now.
