Typical morning routine now is that J wakes up, starts talking to herself, and E comes into J’s room and gets into her bed. They entertain each other for 15 or 20 minutes while I finish getting dressed. (Sometimes E just wakes up and goes into J’s room, even if J isn’t awake yet.) Most mornings, I find them like this, in J’s bed, playing.
E had a good time playing in the sprinkler on Saturday… brief as it was.
J liked being outside barefoot in her bathing suit, but wasn’t too interested in getting wet.
We set them up in the front yard because Michael was working on the mailbox there and the idea was that they would entertain each other while he worked and I took care of some paperwork inside.
After a short while, J wasn’t listening to directions (no bare feet in the garage, etc.) and Daddy was working on the mailbox, so the girls needed to come in.
Michael left the house around 6:30 this morning and won’t be home until 11 PM. He went to Waterloo for the day, to a Deere dealer there. A customer is having trouble with his tractor’s GPS and Michael and a colleague went to figure out what was going on. They tested the tractor all day and came up with some issues and solutions, but no giant problems or miracle cures. I head to Moline tomorrow for some meetings until Thursday.
We did a lot of chores this weekend. Liz and I have made a list of things to get done around the house and are trying to close out as many things as we can. We painted Nana’s kitchen table this weekend. I also put the house number on the replacement mailbox (the original one fell over on Mother’s Day during a storm). It is still very hard to get anything done that takes more than 15 minutes. While E can play by herself, J really needs constant supervision. In around 5 mins, she can fetch a stool and get into about anything she wants.We did take some time off to have fun. We went to a park on Saturday. We went to the zoo with M’s family this morning.

Parents and children all had fun. I think M and E had the most though. They kept getting the giggles and running around. It was hard getting them to eat.
The only tears were when J fell while running and when she fell while climbing. She went all out and had a lot of fun. Towards the end, the heat, exercise and food wore her out. She needed to be carried for a while so that she could put her head down. On the ride home from the zoo, J said that she was hungry. We had saved some of the lunch that they had not eaten. You can see in the photo above just how tired J was by looking at her right hand.
We had a chance to go to see the I-Cubs local baseball team tonight. John Deere has a box with 10 seats and we were invited to go and enjoy it with some colleagues. We had a nice time– it was humid, but a good temperature. And the forecast had been for rain all evening and we didn’t even get a drop. AND the I-Cubs trounced the Nashville Sounds 8-1. The I-Cubs are pretty good– at the top of their league. There was an excellent fireworks display after the show… apparently after every Friday home game.
J’s teacher from daycare came to take care of the girls while we went out. She said that they had a really nice time.
We didn’t take our camera with us, but we had cellphones, so we took a picture to share on the blog… Sorry for the blurry image.
