Manatees & a Boat Ride

Filed under: General — Samillena @ 4:18 pm

We spent the morning at Mote Marine Aquarium, which is right near my parents’ house. They have manatees there, and that is always a highlight. Here are the girls posing in front of the manatee size poster.

And we then took a boat ride in Sarasota Bay and saw beautiful birds and sea creatures.

The marine biologist guide pulled up a net with all sorts of things, including this starfish.

The girls had a lot of fun. They will swim this afternoon…. I am off to Orlando….

It was beautiful today– really warm and no clouds all day.

Tomorrow afternoon I head to Orlando for a conference for my new job. As of Wednesday, I will be on United Way’s payroll…. Pretty exciting. Although that does mean I have only one more day of mini retirement…. ah, well. My parents will bring the girls to Orlando on Friday to meet me for the flight home.

The girls have been really good on this trip. They definitely have their moments, of course. But they are being great companions to each other and true joys for Nanny, Granddaddy, and me. I am sure they will continue in this vein while I am gone for 2 days (plus a little more). Fingers crossed, at least…

Florida

The girls and I are in Florida with my parents while poor Michael has to work. My mini retirement definitely has its privileges…

Here is what we did yesterday…. beach and playground.

It is a little cooler than we would like for swimming (low 70s), but still sunny and beautiful. And since Michael says that Des Moines is like 15 degrees, we will not complain.

While we know Michael would like to be here with us (and the girls and I miss him already), he seems to be getting a lot of stuff done both at home and at work, so it is taking some of the pressure off. I think he feels good about that, even if it means enduring the cold weather by himself.
