Keys recovered

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

I took Mom to the store yesterday and checked at the service desk for Dad’s car key. Someone actually turned it in. I was so happy. I showed Mom and put it in her purse, then I bought a scratch lotto ticket and lost a buck.  :-)

Dad is home

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Dad came home last night. Mom and I waited all day to get a phone call to go pick him up. Did we get one? No, he had trouble dialing out from the hospital and decided to wait until I got off work to pick him up.

It is slow going for him, but then it was before. He is tired and in pain. I’m sure he slept better in his own bed. He is using a walker to help him get around (big step for him). He will have home physical therapy five days next week and then three days a week after that. He will get the staples removed around August 11 as well as see the cardiologist then.

My story… before Tam and B the anyone.

After Mom and I got Dad home and situated I went to Osco to fill his prescriptions and get some dressings for his incisions. Somewhere in the store (no idea how) I lost the key to the van. I checked everywhere I had gone in the store to no avail. I called Tam and she and B were nice enough to go to the house and get the spare for me. If I do not get a call from the store in the next week or so I will have Dad order another and pay for it. I am telling you…I have the worst luck with keys this year. :-) I’m sure I will laugh later, just not right now.

New Knees for Dad

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Those of you that did not know….

Dad had double partial knee replacement today. He was supposed to have the surgery somewhere around noon but did not go in until around two o’clock. He had a spinal block (I think that is what it is called) and they put in an epidural at the same time (for overnight, will switch to shots or pills tomorrow). Then they put him partially under (twilight). Dad says he was completely out and doesn’t remember a thing.

The Doc says that it was good timing for the surgery, and that there was not much damage. He will have a three inch scare on each knee as a souvenir. When Mom and I left him at the hospital he was very tired and hungry (had not eaten in over 24 hours). He cannot feel his feet right now.

We left him in the care of Nurse Barb. He was really tired (go figure) He will have home therapy to help with the recuperation.

The Doc says that he should probably be able to go up and down stairs slowly by late this weekend. The Doc also says that his legs are straight.

How Gullible Are We?

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

A student at Eagle Rock Junior High won first prize at the Greater Idaho Falls Science Fair. He was attempting to show how conditioned we have become to alarmists practicing junk science and spreading fear of everything in our environment. In his project he urged people to sign a petition demanding strict control or total elimination of the chemical “dihydrogen monoxide.”And for plenty of good reasons, since:

  1. it can cause excessive sweating and vomiting
  2. it is a major component in acid rain
  3. it can cause severe burns in its gaseous state
  4. accidental inhalation can kill you
  5. it contributes to erosion
  6. it decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes
  7. it has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients

He asked 50 people if they supported a ban of the chemical.

  • Forty-three (43) said yes,
  • Six (6) were undecided,
  • Only one (1) knew that the chemical was water.

The title of his prize winning project was, “How Gullible Are We?”He feels the conclusion is obvious.

I would have had to look it up. :-)

‘Transformers’Movie review

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Hollywood’s box office record books have been transformed. The sci-fi adventure “Transformers” had an unprecedented Tuesday haul of $27.4 million in its official debut, beating a record of $15.7 million set last year by “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.”

This movie is awesome. I highly recommend that everyone see it on the big screen, it will make a difference in the viewing. B saw it Friday. Jnine and I saw it yesterday. We all loved it and would see it again (probably will). You don’t have to have watched the cartoon series to understand what is going on. The special effects are Oscar worthy in my opinion.
