Wait… There’s More

Roger forgot to mention one thing. Last night we saw our new favorite band, VNV Nation, at The Fillmore. The show was great. Follow the link to the right to hear some of their stuff. The people-watching was FANTASTIC! On just about any day in San Francisco you can find a fine display of odd behavior. People out here just looove to parade around in costumes - any excuse will do. So, imagine how a goth/industrial music show can bring out the finest festoonery. We were among the approximately dozen or so people in the whole place not dressed completely in black, and certainly in the minority by not having at least three pieces of jewelry fashioned from one of more of the following items: metal studs, fish hooks, chainmail and various leather bits. Next time I’m going head-to-toe in a black leather tank top and kilt with some thigh-high biker boots.

This was our first time at The Fillmore. It was pretty cool being in this intimate little place (about the size of the Cabaret Metro in Chicago) that could double as a modern music history museum. We sat upstairs in the Poster Room. The walls were completely filled with posters from past performances from Jefferson Airplane to Grateful Dead to Santana to Cream to Chuck Berry to… If you’re interested see their web page. Anyway, enough about us. It’s a picture-perfect Bay Area day and we gotta go soak up some sun.

Yes it has been a while!

(R) OK, so I’ve been bad on posting. I’ll try to do better. Things have been a little crazy in Cali. We have been in a marathon session of travel for both work and pleasure starting in May. We flew into Chicago the first weekend in May for a whirlwind tour. We went back to Abbott on Friday the 6th to visit old friends, and I needed to talk to my old boss because he will now be the Director of European Quality for my division (see S’s story about the black dress - things come back to haunt you). Saturday we attended the wedding of a good friend of ours. The after party was a lot of fun. The bride hired the groom’s favorite band to play at a local dive bar. The band was a live karaoke band. Wow there were a lot of bad singers! On Sunday we surprised Mom for Mother’s Day. The look on her face was priceless! We walked into the restaurant where Mom, Dad, Tam, Kurt and the kids were waiting to start eating. I walked up next to her and said “What, you’re not going to give me a hug and a kiss?” She looked at me like “Who in the hell is this?”, looked away and then looked back again clearly hoping this strange man had gone away. After looking as surprised as someone who had just been hit on the back of the head with a baseball bat, you could see that things finally started making sense to her. The tears started flowing, I got my hug and a kiss, and brunch was good. Thanks Tam and Dad for arranging everything and for keeping it a complete surprise.
Scott and I are heading down to Palm Springs next weekend (no Vegas for us this year) for a little warmth (100+) and some hiking in the desert. Palm Springs is a great get away for us. 40 minutes in a plane and great relaxation and hiking.
After we get back from Palm Springs I have to start packing for a business trip to Germany. My division is having a quality summit where I have been ask to attend to give advise on setting up a global quality documentation system and global policies for risk management. Why me? I’m not sure.
This week in Germany will give Scott another chance at trying his cooking skills. I have retrained him on how to microwave his Amy’s Texas Burgers without turning them into hockey pucks (only 1 minute not 5). The only problem with this is that he may be doing test lab audits the same week I’m in Germany. If he does go he will be going to exciting places like Irvine, CA and Salt Lake City, UT. WOW!

OK, so this post has gotten quite long. I guess I should keep them shorter and more often.
