On The Road

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

There are some definite advantages to having an iPhone. We are in the Exployer with the new file pump and relay, Scott is driving, Metallica blasting, sun shining, 70 degrees, and me typing this blog! We are on our way to some fufu camping. All of our meals will be catered and we have a case of beer, 4 1/2 bottles of wine, and a pitcher of Manhattens. Life is good! Pictures when we get back.

The Kristinka Mobile

The last time I drove our Ford Explorer I was coming home from our friends vineyard (pics in last post) and was driving in the left lane of 101 at 80mph when the engine died. I had managed to pull it over 4 lanes and onto an exit ramp before stopping. It would not restart, and I was stranded there for 1.5 hours (Scott was in Copenhagen). A really nice CHP officer had a great talk about music after he commented about my Tool shirt before my tow truck arrived. After we towed it to the shop, which was closed making me stranded but a hour from home, the driver got it off the truck and tried the engine again. It started right up! I was able to make it home ok. This is the second time this has happened, and we had already spent $1600 supposedly fixing the problem. We will get it back this morning, hopefully fixed, for our camping trip this weekend.

We went to dinner last night with our friends John and Dennis at a wine bar/restaurant called Nectar. We befriended the sommelier the last time we were there. We ended up hooking her up with our friend Caroline who has a syrah vineyard up north. She was looking to purchase grapes for her winery and Caroline was looking for a new buyer. The rest is history. I was at the vineyard last month helping with shoot positioning and tying up the vines. I took this picture of a Blue Eye Dick, and no it was not staged or photoshoped.

Blue Eye Dick

Her vineyard is a great place to go and get back to nature. There is no television, no electricity (solar only), no noise, no light at night.

Another Week Gone

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Well another week has come and gone. It has been unseasonable nice, every body out here says to hot, here in the bay area. It has been 102 for the last 2 days. Finally there have been nights warm enough to be outside in shorts and a t-shirt. One of the thing we miss about Chicago in the summer. Scott’s official last day was yesterday. He has been networking and has made some good connections at Genetech. Hopefully they will work out because Genetech is a great company to work for. Next weekend we are going camping in Pope Valley. It will be good to get away and be outdoors for the week end. Other that this, not much is happening. We will keep everybody posted if things change.

It’s been a while!

I guess we should apologize for not posting sooner, but 2008 has been rough for us in San Francisco. Not to go into all of the details of the rollercoaster ride, but it has been a twisting, turning ride with the latest dip leaving Scott on the unemployment line. A couple of weeks ago his company announced that they were closing his facility. Job hunting is not easy, but I’m sure he will find something. We have been networking at the Abbott facility in Temecula. I have many contacts there from Chicago, and they might be able to find us both positions there. We originally had a long weekend to visit our friends in Temecula and see the Pink Martini’s. We did not know back in January how perfect the timing would be for a long weekend in Temecula. The Pink Martini’s were incredible! If you have never heard them, look them up. They are an 11 piece band and the singer has an incredible voice. We are heading back to the bay today. It has been a good break.
